Our editorial approach

The goal is to make each calculation understandable, practical, and transparent: a reader should be able to see what was calculated, how, and what the result can and cannot tell them.

Accuracy and clarity

Calculator pages keep these elements distinct so one is not mistaken for another:

• Formulas — the exact calculation, with every variable defined.
• Examples — worked calculations using stated inputs.
• Assumptions — values or conventions the result depends on, such as hours per week.
• Interpretation — what the result means, including negative or zero outcomes.
• Limitations — situations the formula does not describe well.

Terms that are often confused, such as margin and markup, or ROAS and ROI, are defined and compared directly.

Sources and formula selection

BizFormula uses established mathematical and business formulas. Where a metric has more than one common definition — for example, whether customer lifetime value is measured in revenue or in profit — the page states which definition the calculator uses. Formulas are not presented as having been independently reviewed by an accountant or other professional.

Examples

Worked examples are illustrative. They use round, stated numbers chosen to make the calculation easy to follow, and they are not real customer, company, or salary data.

Benchmarks

What counts as a “good” margin, ROAS, or conversion rate depends on the industry, business model, and costs involved. BizFormula avoids presenting single numbers as universally good, bad, or recommended. Where a threshold is mathematically meaningful — for example, the break-even ROAS implied by a given margin — the page explains how it is derived.

Updates

Calculators and explanations may be updated when an error is found, a formula needs clearer wording, functionality improves, terminology changes, or a better explanation becomes available.

Corrections

If you believe a calculator or explanation is wrong, email Hello@thebizformula.com with the page, the inputs you used, the result you saw, and the result you expected. Reports are checked against the formula and its tests, and confirmed errors are corrected. See the Contact page for more.

Editorial independence

Calculator logic and explanations are not altered to favour an advertiser, product, or commercial partner, or to produce a particular outcome.

Advertising

If advertising or commercial placements are displayed on BizFormula, they are kept separate from calculator logic and editorial calculations and do not change any result.

Limitations

Editorial material is informational. It may not reflect every jurisdiction, business model, employment arrangement, or individual circumstance, and it is not professional advice.
